Seminars and training courses

Opening minds to new technology

Working in a business that is primarily involved in the application of technology on local electricity networks, each week our team experience a wide dynamic range of acceptance and take up of new ideas that exist in the industry. There’s the leading edge practitioners who quickly identify and appreciate the advantages and costs savings of employing new technology, to those who appear reluctant to consider that even small changes may have a positive pay back effect.

Over the years I’ve been curious that very few NZ utility engineers, their consultants in New Zealand, or more importantly, their management, recognise the value in attending technical conferences held off shore; e.g. the Biannual CIGRE conference in Paris, or the IEEE expo held in the USA. These events provide a range of opportunities to engage with like-minded engineers from utilities from around the globe and to see first hand a diverse range of equipment and technologies.

With this in mind, I’m delighted and encouraged to see that this week there are a number of our customers who will be taking time away from their offices to top up their knowledge. The registrations for the Siemens Distance Protection seminars we’re hosting around the country have been the best we have ever had.

HV Power would like to thank Siemens AG for sponsoring the visit of Gustav Steynberg who will be presenting the distance protection training. We’re pleased to be facilitating these “opportunities” for learning and look forward to the discussion, debate and engagement with our customers who are attending.

More good news is that further expert engineers are heading to NZ later this month. You’ll find details in this newsletter.

Safer Test Fingers for Test Blocks

Safety Test FingerWe currently have stocks of the RMS 2RMLB Multi finger “safety” Test Plug that we announced in May. This test plug is 100 % compatible with Reyrolle 2RMLG and Areva MMLG test blocks.

The key feature is the use of ‘finger safe’ test sockets which allow the use of shrouded 4 mm banana plugs.

The 2RMLB has a list price of NZ$460+GST and can be ordered for immediate delivery.

We have stock of the Reyrolle 2RMLG test block too!

      Station Alarm Panels

RMS Station Alarm Panel Are substation alarm panels a thing of the past? Does streams of SCADA data and IED’s with a myriad of buttons and flashing lights eliminate the need for alarm panels? HV Power don’t think so. When SCADA fails or a fault happens at your sub, you want the first responder to be able to quickly evaluate the key site problems and prioritise a plan of action. An alarm panel gives you the means to marshal critical alarms to a central point to give a clear site status, without distraction!

The RMS 1A54 Station Alarm Panel has just two buttons, Acknowledge and Reset, making the panel operation simple and clear - important when staff are under pressure to restore supply!
Features include instantaneous or time delayed operation, repeat output contacts (latching or self-reset), and common output contact for external audible or visual alarm.

Alarm panels may also be used for the purpose of providing a visual indication to staff as they lockup and leave a sub - showing that all test switches, security and other systems are in the correct state.

Starting from $850+GST (for 8 points), the alarm panels are simple to install, and will help avoid embarrassing oversights at your subs. This price includes permanent front panel custom engraving of LED labels.

See the 1A54 web page for further details and to access technical data.
